How do you split a PDF into individual pages? Here you do not have to mark each page yourself: a split is switched on before every page except the first as soon as the file loads. A 12-page document gives you 12 PDF files in one ZIP archive.

How to split PDF pages into separate files

    “Start a new file here” is already on for every page except the first. If two pages belong together, such as a form and its signed back page, click “Remove split” on the second one.

    Every page is saved as its own PDF with its text and fonts. Pages where you removed the split go into a shared file.

    After the page count, size and text of every file have been checked, you download the ZIP archive. The files are numbered in the order of the original.

How the page files are named

Each file gets the original name with “pages”, a sequence number and the page number, for example contract-pages-01-page-1.pdf, contract-pages-02-page-2.pdf and so on. If you keep a few pages together, the name shows their range, such as contract-pages-03-pages-3-4.pdf. The sequence number always has at least two digits, so the files sort correctly even in a folder with more than ten pages.

When one file per page makes sense

A separate file for each page is handy when every page goes to a different person or folder: invoices printed into one PDF, payslips, certificates from a mail merge or scanned letters. It also prepares files for upload forms that accept only one document per attachment field.

File size and text

Each file carries a copy of the fonts its page uses, so even a page with a few lines of text usually takes tens of KB, and all the files together can be larger than the original. A scanned page is about as large as it was in the source document.

Text stays selectable and searchable, because pages are not turned into images. A scan without recognised text (OCR) stays an image, just as in the original. If a single page has to fit a small upload limit, shrink it with Compress PDF.

Privacy

All processing takes place in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to a server, and no data remains after you close the page.

FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Splitting happens in your browser tab, no page leaves your device and the ZIP archive is created right in the browser. Once you close the tab, the document is not kept in the browser.

Why do I get a ZIP instead of ten separate PDFs?
A ZIP lets you download every page at once instead of saving each file separately. The files inside have numbered names, such as contract-pages-01-page-1.pdf, so after extraction they keep the order of the original document.

Can I keep some pages together?
Yes. On the page that should stay with the previous one, click “Remove split” and both pages go into one file. “One file per page” or “Restore original order” takes you back to the layout where every page is a separate file.

Will the text on the pages stay searchable?
Yes, if it was searchable in the original. Pages are copied with their fonts and nothing is turned into an image, so in each file you can search, select and copy text just as in the source document.

How do I split a 100-page scan?
The same way as any other file, because there is no fixed limit. What matters is browser memory: with a long colour scan the previews take longer to load, and a phone browser may struggle with hundreds of scanned pages. In that case, use a computer.

Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not while it is encrypted, even if it opens without a password and only restricts printing. The tool rejects such a file, so unlock it first with Unlock PDF. You can then split the unlocked copy into pages like any other document.

Are bookmarks and form fields kept?
No. The files get the page content: text, images, graphics and fonts. Bookmarks, form fields, signatures and attachments belong to the whole document and are not carried over, and the tool warns you about them right after the file loads.

How do I split a PDF into individual pages?
