Delete pages from PDF

How do you delete a page from a PDF without a PDF editor? All you need is a browser, on Windows, a Mac, an iPhone or an Android phone. You tick the unwanted pages next to the previews, and the tool saves a new file with only the pages you keep. That works for a blank last page, a cover sheet or a few pages from the middle.

How to delete pages from a PDF

    Click the checkbox on every page that should go. The counter above the previews shows how many pages are selected. At least one page must remain.

    The remaining pages are copied into a new document in their original order, with no loss of quality.

    The tool compares the count, size and text of the remaining pages with the original before it offers the download. The result screen shows the original and the new file size.

What happens to the deleted pages

Deleted pages are never written into the new file, so their content cannot be recovered from it. That matters when you remove a page with details the recipient should not see. The original on your device stays unchanged, so if you make a mistake, you can repeat the deletion with a different selection.

Pages people usually delete

Most often these are blank backs from double-sided scanning, cover and separator sheets, pages scanned twice and pages with notes that are not meant for the recipient. The previews show every page, so you can spot blank and duplicate pages without opening the file in another app. The “Select blank pages” button selects white pages in one click.

If only a few pages of a long document should stay, it is quicker to tick just those in Extract pages from PDF. If the pages are needed, only in a different place, do not delete them but move them with Organize PDF pages.

What changes in the new file

The new file contains only the images and fonts that the remaining pages use. Removing scanned pages shrinks the file roughly in proportion, while removing text pages shrinks it only a little, because fonts are shared by the whole document.

Page numbers printed in the footer stay as they were, because they are part of the page content. The document title and author, bookmarks, form fields and attachments are not carried over. If your file has bookmarks, forms or attachments, the tool tells you right after loading it.

Privacy

All processing takes place in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to a server, and no data remains after you close the page.

FAQ

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?
No. Everything happens in your browser, the file is not sent anywhere and it is not kept in the browser after you close the tab. Only you see the pages you remove.

Can I remove several pages at once?
Yes. Select as many pages as you like, but at least one has to remain, otherwise the result would not be a valid PDF. If you want to keep only a few pages of a long document, it is quicker to select them in Extract pages from PDF.

Will the remaining pages lose quality?
No. Pages are copied with their content unchanged, including text, images and fonts. Nothing is recalculated or turned into an image, so the remaining pages look exactly the same and keep their quality.

Can I get a removed page back?
Not from the new file, because removed pages are never written into it. The original on your device stays unchanged, though, so you can repeat the removal with a different selection at any time.

How do I remove every other page?
Select those pages by hand in the previews, because the tool has no rule such as “every even page”. If every other page is a blank back side from duplex scanning, click “Select blank pages” and the tool selects them for you.

Can I remove pages from a password-protected PDF?
Not while the file is encrypted, even if it opens without a password. The tool rejects it, so unlock it first with Unlock PDF. After removing pages you can protect the finished file again with Password protect PDF.

How many pages can the tool handle at once?
There is no fixed limit; it depends on your browser’s memory. Page previews load one after another, so a document with hundreds of pages takes a moment to load, but it works. For scans of several hundred MB, use a computer rather than a phone.

How do I remove a blank page from a PDF?
You do not have to hunt for blank pages from duplex scanning one by one. Open Remove blank pages from PDF: it checks the whole document and selects white pages for you, so you only need to review the selection and click “Remove pages”.
