Is HEIC embedded directly in the PDF?
No. The photograph is decoded to pixels and stored as PNG without another lossy encoding pass. This is why the PDF may be larger than the compact source HEIC. The source files remain unchanged on your device throughout.

Will text in a photographed document become searchable?
