How to remove metadata from a PDF

  1. 1

    Choose a PDF

Click Choose PDF or drag the file onto the page. The file is loaded only in your browser.

  2. 2

    Select metadata

Review document details, dates, software information, identifiers and embedded files, then select what should be removed.

  3. 3

    Remove metadata

A new PDF is written without the selected metadata items.

  4. 4

    Check and download

The tool confirms that selected items are gone, unselected items remain and the page count matches the source.

Visible content is separate

This tool removes stored metadata and selected attachments. Names, dates or other details printed visibly on a page remain part of the page content and must be edited in the source document.

What PDF metadata may reveal

Metadata can include the title, author, subject, keywords, creation and modification dates, software names and document identifiers.

Embedded files may also contain information that is not visible while reading the pages.

What remains after cleaning

Any metadata item you leave unselected is preserved. The tool verifies both removed and retained fields before download.

Page content, printed headers, comments flattened into pages and text visible in images are not metadata and remain unchanged.

Privacy

All processing takes place in your browser. Your PDF is never uploaded to a server, and no data remains after you close the page.

FAQ

Is the PDF uploaded?

No. Metadata inspection, removal and verification all take place locally in your browser.

Can I keep some metadata?

Yes. Only selected items are removed, and the tool verifies that unselected fields remain in the result.

Does this remove visible names and dates?

No. Text printed on a page is page content, not metadata, and remains visible in the cleaned PDF.

Are embedded files removable?

Yes. Embedded attachments appear in their own category and can be selected for removal like other metadata items.

Will digital signatures remain valid?

No. Rewriting any part of a signed PDF changes its bytes and normally invalidates existing digital signatures.
