How many standard pages do common texts have
Requirements differ by school and assignment, but these ranges give you a rough idea:

These numbers are approximate. For school work, your institution's guidelines are binding; for client work, the agreement with the client.
Standard pages across Central Europe
Slovakia and Czechia use 1,800 characters including spaces. In Poland, translations are billed per "strona rozliczeniowa" of 1,800 characters, while publishers also use 1,500. In Hungary, text length is usually given directly in characters. If you work with a foreign client, agree on the page size in advance - you can adjust it in the calculator settings.
A standard page is not an A4 page
A standard page measures the amount of text (1,800 characters including spaces), while an A4 page is physical paper. Depending on font size and line spacing, one A4 page holds roughly one to two standard pages. That is why thesis and translation lengths are specified in standard pages - the result does not depend on formatting.

What is a standard page?
A standard page is a standardized unit for measuring text length. It traditionally contains 1,800 characters including spaces, which corresponds to approximately 30 lines of 60 characters each.
Why 1,800 characters?
The value of 1,800 characters is a historical standard in Central European countries. In some cases, 1,500 characters or a custom agreed value is used instead.
How are standard pages calculated?
Standard pages are calculated by dividing the total character count (including spaces) by the standard page size. If your text has 3,600 characters and you use the 1,800 standard, you have 2 standard pages.

How many words is a standard page?
A standard page is defined by characters (1,800 including spaces), not words. In typical English text this works out to roughly 250-300 words, fewer with longer words.
Do spaces count towards a standard page?
Yes, this calculator always counts characters including spaces. Changing the standard page size only changes the number of characters per page; it does not exclude spaces. This tool does not support counting without spaces.
