Need to deliver a PDF that is tens of megabytes? Learn when to compress it, send a link or split it into parts, and what to check before sending.
You can deliver a large PDF in three ways: as a compressed attachment, as a link to a cloud file or as several smaller files. The right choice depends on who receives it and what they need to do with it.
Three approaches and when to use each
Use a compressed attachment when the recipient needs one ordinary file and some reduction is possible without losing important detail. Use a link for very large files, collaboration or repeated downloads. Split the PDF when its sections are meaningful on their own or a system permits several attachments with separate limits.
Before choosing, consider confidentiality, the recipient's technical access, any submission rules and whether exact print quality matters.
Option 1: compress the PDF and send it as an attachment
Open Compress PDF and choose a target below the receiving limit, leaving room for email encoding. The tool compares four methods and offers the smallest verified result that meets the ceiling. If the ceiling cannot be reached, it returns the smallest verified candidate and tells you by how much it is over.
Image reduction and page rendering may soften fine details, so inspect stamps, signatures, diagrams and small type. Keep the original for printing or archiving.

Enter a target size and the tool will find the smallest PDF that meets it while preserving the text. Your file is never uploaded.
Option 2: send a link
Upload the PDF to an approved cloud or file-transfer service and send a sharing link. Configure who may open it, whether sign-in is required, whether downloading is permitted and when access expires. Test the link in a private browser window before sending it.
Do not expose confidential records through an unrestricted public link. A link also depends on the third party retaining the file and on the recipient having network access, so it is not always suitable for formal submissions.
Option 3: split the PDF into parts
Use Split PDF to mark where each new file should begin. Every page goes into exactly one part and the results arrive in a ZIP archive. Name or explain the parts clearly so the recipient knows their order.
If only a few pages are required, Extract PDF Pages avoids sending the rest. Compress each finished part if it must meet a separate size ceiling.

Mark the pages where each new file should begin, then send only the part the portal actually requires.
What not to do
Putting an ordinary PDF in a ZIP archive rarely saves much because images and internal streams are already compressed. Renaming the extension does not change the format or size. Repeatedly printing to PDF can flatten features, invalidate signatures and reduce quality without reliably reaching the target.
Do not remove pages or reduce resolution before confirming what the recipient needs. Never delete the original until the delivered copy has been accepted.
Checks before sending
Open the final file and verify page order, readability, signatures and the filename. Confirm that the attachment or link opens from the recipient's perspective. Remove unneeded pages and metadata where appropriate, and password-protect sensitive material only after all other processing.
Send a password through a different channel from the protected file. For a cloud link, check permissions and expiry. For an email attachment, remember that encoding makes the transmitted message larger than the file on disk.
Frequently asked questions
How large a file can I send by email?
Limits differ between providers and organisations and apply to the encoded message, not just the file on disk. Check both sides and leave a margin rather than aiming at the exact published maximum.
Is it safe to send a PDF as a link?
It can be when you use an approved service and set access correctly. Restrict the audience, consider an expiry date and avoid public links for confidential documents.
How do I send a 100 MB PDF?
A controlled sharing link is usually more practical than email. If the recipient requires attachments, split the document into meaningful parts and compress them only as far as readability allows.
Will putting a PDF in a ZIP file make it smaller?
Usually only slightly, because PDF content is commonly compressed already. ZIP is useful for bundling several files, not as a dependable way to reduce a large PDF.
How do I email a scanned document from my phone?
Create one PDF from the scanned images, arrange and check its pages, then compress it if necessary. Attach the result in your mail app or send an access-controlled link.
Are files uploaded anywhere when they are compressed?
No. Our compression runs in your browser and does not send the file to our server. A cloud service or email provider receives it only when you choose to upload or send it there.
