A 5 MB cap per photo is what Google Business Profile uses, and many other upload forms stop there too. Photos from newer phones can go over it, and the site then rejects them without much explanation. Drop the whole series here, the tool gets each photo under 5 MB and shows you the new size. Google's exact requirements and how 5 MB compares with other limits follow below.
How to compress a photo to 5 MB
-
1
Add your photos
Drag photos from your phone or camera onto the page, or choose them with the button. You can add a whole series at once.
-
2
The 5 MB limit is already set
It applies to each photo separately, so there's nothing to set. For a different limit, such as 4 MB, use Compress image with a custom size.
-
3
Cap the dimensions if needed
If the site states a maximum size in pixels, choose Full HD, 2K or 4K. Turn on Save as WebP only if the site accepts WebP.
-
4
Download your photos
Each photo shows its size before and after. One photo downloads directly, several in one ZIP.
Who asks for 5 MB
Google Business Profile: JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB, 720 × 720 px recommended. For comparison, LinkedIn allows profile photos up to 8 MB, eBay 12 MB per photo, and Shopify and Discord 20 MB. If one of those is your target, a 5 MB photo fits with room to spare.
Photos for Google Business Profile
For business profile photos, Google lists JPG or PNG, a size between 10 KB and 5 MB, a recommended 720 × 720 px and at least 250 × 250 px. Phone photos have plenty of pixels, so the usual problem is the file size or the HEIC format.
The tool saves iPhone HEIC photos as JPG, so you fix the format and the size in one go. Don't turn on Save as WebP here, because Google lists only JPG and PNG for business profiles.
How to get a photo under 5 MB
Add the photo and click Compress to 5 MB. The tool first tries a lower quality and keeps the dimensions, and shrinks the photo in pixels only if that isn't enough. The result line shows the new size of each photo.
If a photo is already under 5 MB, there's usually nothing to compress and the result line says so. You then get the original image back, only without metadata such as the GPS location. HEIC photos are still saved as JPG, and a photo stored sideways is saved again the right way up.
